**Baltimore, MD** (July 2, 2023) - Two people are dead and 28 people were injured in a mass shooting at a block party in Baltimore on Saturday night, officials said.

The shooting happened at a block party in the 2700 block of North Avenue around 11:30 p.m., according to Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison.

Harrison said that a group of people were gathered at the block party when someone opened fire. He said that two people were killed and 28 people were injured, including a police officer.

The officer was shot in the leg and is in stable condition.

Harrison said that the shooting is being investigated as a homicide. He said that no suspects have been arrested at this time.

The shooting comes just days after a mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, that left seven people dead and dozens injured.

Harrison said that the Baltimore shooting is a "senseless act of violence" that has no place in the city. He urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

"We are asking for the public's help in solving this crime," Harrison said. "If you know anything about what happened, please contact the police."

The shooting has left the city shaken. Mayor Brandon Scott said that the city is "heartbroken" by the loss of life.

"Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of those who were killed and injured," Scott said. "We will not tolerate this type of violence in our city."

The city has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Baltimore Police Department at 410-394-2100.
